RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The nursery has recently been refurbished. It is a beautiful, safe and welcoming space for infants and toddlers. The nursery has been stocked with appropriate toys and equipment to enable staff to care for children from infants to age 3. Volunteers are always welcome for this endeavor. Sunday School: The time of Sunday School from Sep. to Jun. is held at 10:15. When the children complete their lessons, they join their families for Eucharist in the Church at the end of each session. Teachers have volunteered to work on a rotating basis throughout the year. Sunday School Teachers. At the current time, eight adults have volunteered to work on a rotating basis throughout the year. The teens have access to the recently refurbished Addison Room when needed. The school year plan for the following year is formulated after the Diocesan Youth Retreat in September. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: On August 13, the Bishop of Washington issued new guidelines for protecting our youth from sexual misconduct through (1) screening, (2) standards of behavior and (3) training. All adults participating in any youth activity at St. John’s will have been trained through the Diocese in sexual abuse issues. The diocese is providing training sessions, so that everyone who is involved with the youth of the church will have received training.

Nursery: . Parents can feel confident that their children are well-cared for while they attend services or other activities. that the nursery will be available to parents on every Sunday, for either service, and during Adult Forum, that is from 8:00 am to approximately 12:00 noon.
The teachers and students follow the readings and lessons that are being read at each week’s service. The teacher reads the selected Bible lesson for the week, while students use felt boards and characters from the story to act out the lesson by placing the characters on the felt board. Following that activity the teacher and students discuss the story and the teacher leads the students to give their opinions and feelings. This is followed by creative activities that stem from the lesson. Each child can do something that seems to him/her to be related to what they have learned from the lesson.
Teen Program: A delegation from the Christian Formation (Youth) Committee attended a retreat sponsored by the diocese on September 24-25, 2004, where they discussed ideas with others from around the diocese to get ideas on how to enhance St. John’s program. St. John’s young people will continue to participate in such diocesan activities as the Cathedral Lock-In and the Acolyte Festival. We are still looking for someone to head this very important segment of our youth program.
